App Cost Calculator: how much does it cost to build an app?

Pick what you are building, tap the features you need, and watch a real estimate build up live — a range with a full breakdown, not one made-up number. Priced for our premium markets — the United States first, then the UK, Canada and Australia — with each market's store, tax and privacy setup factored in. When you are ready, we turn this exact scope into a fixed-price quote.

STEP 1

Where will you launch first?

We build for premium markets — the United States is our primary market, then the UK, Canada and Australia. Your market adjusts the estimate for local store pricing, tax and privacy setup.

STEP 2

What kind of app?

The type sets the base build. Pick the closest match — you can fine-tune with features below.

STEP 3

Which platforms?

One codebase that runs on both stores (cross-platform) costs less than two separate native apps.

STEP 4

Features

Tap everything your app needs. Every feature carries its own price — no black box. Tap again to remove.

STEP 5

Design level

How custom should it look and feel?

STEP 6

How fast do you need it?

A relaxed schedule gives the team room and costs a little less; fast-track compresses the same work.

If you ask for a quote, this line travels with your scope so we reply about your app, not a generic one.

What drives app development cost?

Four things drive what an app costs to build: the type of app, the platforms and design level, the market you launch in, and the features you add. Most app calculators hide that math — ours is published below, so you can check every dollar before you ever talk to us. The same openness is why we show a range: honest scopes vary, and a single fake-precise number would be lying to you.

1 · Base by app type

Each app type starts from a base build cost drawn from real project scopes of that kind — a utility tool is not priced like a two-sided marketplace.

2 · Platform & design multipliers

Two native apps cost more than one cross-platform build; a fully brand-led design costs more than a clean template-based one. Multipliers are listed in the table below.

3 · Market adjustment

Where you launch changes the setup work: US pricing is the baseline, while UK GDPR basics, Canadian privacy rules and Australian GST-ready checkout each add a small setup adjustment (base × 1.03–1.04), and launching in all four markets at once adds × 1.10. Every multiplier is listed in the table below.

4 · Features at flat prices

Every feature tile shows its price before you tap it. Features are added flat — they do not get multiplied — so the total is easy to audit line by line.

5 · Range, not a point

The range is the adjusted total × 0.85 (low) to × 1.20 (high). Where your project lands depends on details the fixed-price quote nails down — content readiness, third-party accounts, and design rounds.

How much does it cost to build an app in the USA?

The United States is our primary market, and it is the baseline this calculator is priced on: US App Store and Google Play launch, USD pricing, and US payment and privacy setup are built into every estimate. Independent 2026 cost guides put typical US app builds in the bands below — founders search for cost before they talk to anyone, so this page answers that question honestly, with our own numbers on the table. The UK, Canada and Australia work the same way, with a small setup adjustment for each market's own rules.

United States — primary market

USD store pricing, Stripe-ready payments, and US privacy basics. The baseline every estimate in this calculator starts from.

United Kingdom

GBP in-store pricing and UK GDPR / data-protection basics factored into setup (base × 1.04).

Canada

CAD in-store pricing and PIPEDA privacy basics, with optional English/French localisation via the multi-language feature (base × 1.03).

Australia

AUD in-store pricing and a GST-ready checkout setup under Australian privacy rules (base × 1.03).

How much does a marketplace or AI app cost?

Two of the most-searched app types sit at opposite ends of the build. A marketplace app is the heaviest standard build in this calculator — two user sides, listings, payments and commissions — starting from a $19,900 base (about 16 weeks) before features. An AI app usually starts as a simpler app type and adds AI features — chatbot, recommendations or smart search — as a flat +$2,900 feature on top. Run both through the calculator above: pick Marketplace in Step 2, or any type plus the AI features tile in Step 4, and watch the range rebuild live.

Market vs ScaleTrio: the same app, side by side

Same scope, two very different bills. The market column uses the published US industry bands from the DashDevs 2026 guide — the same anchors shown above. The ScaleTrio column is our fixed package pricing: one number, agreed in writing before work starts, and it never changes mid-project.

PackageTypical US agencyScaleTrio fixed price
Launch — focused, single-purpose app $15k – $60k $4,999
Growth — full app with payments & monetization $60k – $180k $9,999
Scale — multi-feature platform $180k – $500k+ $19,999

Market bands: simple app $15k–$60k · medium app $60k–$180k · complex app $180k–$500k+ (DashDevs app development cost guide, 2026). ScaleTrio prices are one-time fixed package prices: 50% after you approve the free demo, 50% at launch.

Typical US agency

  • How you're chargedHourly billing is the norm, so the final total depends on how many hours the build runs.
  • Before you payYou usually commit to the full build from a proposal — there is no working version of your app to judge first.
  • Design & revisionsDesign work and revision rounds are often billed as separate line items.
  • Platforms & launchA second platform or store submission is often priced as an extra.
  • The codeOwnership depends on the contract — who owns the source code is something you have to negotiate.
  • After launchSupport usually means an ongoing retainer, or fixes billed by the hour.
  • TimelineBigger teams and hourly billing often mean longer timelines.

ScaleTrio

  • How you're chargedOne fixed price for the whole build, confirmed before work starts — it never changes mid-project.
  • Before you pay$0 upfront. Your app icon and a working demo are built free first — you pay only after you approve the demo.
  • Design & revisionsCustom UI design is included in every package.
  • Platforms & launchAndroid + iOS in one build, with Play Store + App Store launch included.
  • The code100% yours — source code, store listings and accounts in your name. No lock-in, no hostage code.
  • After launchLaunch support is included. Later updates are quoted separately — never a forced monthly retainer.
  • TimelineYour exact timeline in writing before any payment; a focused app typically launches in 3–6 weeks from the approved demo.

Questions founders ask us

Is this estimate my final price?

No — it is an honest planning range based on the scope you picked. Your fixed-price quote confirms one exact number for that exact scope before work starts, and that number does not change mid-project. If the scope changes, we re-quote the change first — never surprise-bill it.

Why a range instead of one number?

Because one number would be false precision. Two apps with the same feature list can differ once design rounds, content, and third-party services are pinned down. The range (total × 0.85 to × 1.20) shows the honest spread; the quote collapses it to a single fixed price.

What does Year-1 total include?

The typical build cost plus 12 months of the optional care & hosting plan (updates, monitoring, store compliance, small fixes). It is shown separately on purpose — many agencies bury running costs inside the build price. You can skip care entirely and run the app yourself.

Do I own the app and the code?

Yes. ScaleTrio builds are fixed-price and the code is yours — that is one of the trust points this calculator is designed around, the same pattern leading agency calculators use.

Which countries do you build apps for?

Our premium markets: the United States first, then the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Estimates are priced in USD with each market's store pricing, tax and privacy setup factored in — pick your market in Step 1 and the calculator adjusts. Building for a different market? Ask for a quote and we will confirm scope by email.

What happens after I request a quote?

Your selected scope — app type, platform, features, design level, timeline and the estimate range — arrives with the request, so the reply is a fixed-price quote for this app, not a generic sales call. No account, no card, nothing is charged at this step.
